MAPS Students

'I wouldn’t be passing my AP® class without my mentor’s help'
- MAPS student 06-07

Students in the MAP program have a chance to work closely with a mentor who is an expert on the subject matter. The mentor will:

  • Help students with AP® school work, and show students how the AP® class will apply to life and future careers
  • Introduce students to different kinds of careers, and to people who work in careers that interest students.
  • Give advice about where to apply for colleges, and can direct students towards scholarships and internships.
  • Help out when students are struggling with the demands of school and life.

MAPS students…

  • Agree to meet with their mentor on a regular basis (in general about 4 hours per month), complete their AP® course and pass the AP® Exam(s)
  • Participate in real world problem solving, applying practical applications of AP® course concepts and principles
  • Experience what physicists/engineers/scientists "do"
