MAPS Mentor Overview

What is a MAPS mentor?

A MAPS mentor is someone who wants to help students learn about their AP® subject and explore ways they can use the knowledge and skills in everyday life, college, and careers. The focus is on mentoring, challenging and tutoring AP® students.

Participating mentors will have an excellent opportunity to develop or hone their leadership, communication, and presentation skills. They will also gain a deeper understanding of the K-12 education system and the challenges faced by high school teachers.

'I always look forward to meeting with MAPS students. It’s a highlight for me.'
– MAPS mentor 2006-2007

MAPS mentors are currently working with physics, calculus, chemistry and biology classes.

  • Collaborate with their assigned AP® teacher
  • Provide challenging real world problems solving situations and discussions
  • Assist with student’s senior projects
  • Participate in program meetings and events
  • Provide information about scholarships and internships for students
  • Like working with young people, and like the subject matter.
  • Have fun!
