Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) overview:
Nine counties in Southwest Washington and Northern Oregon have been awarded a three year, $2M STEM grant from the US Department of Labor. This pilot project will:
- Identify and meet the needs of local STEM employers
- Train and prepare people for STEM careers, with an emphasis on disadvantaged youth (ages 16-24), and workers who have been laid off
- Strengthen partnerships, and expand the capacity of local WorkSource center
- Upon program success be replicated in other areas of the country
A key component of this project is matching mentors who are experts in STEM industries with program participants, or protégés. nConnect NW is currently recruiting mentors to work with one or more protégé for 6 months-1 year.
